The seminar offers an introduction to influential theories for the analysis of mediated communi
cation. For students in Speech and Communication (MA), this is the second part of a mandatory
module; for MA TGWT students this one-semester seminar can be used for the MA TGWT PHIL
1 (Philosophy of Science) module, since the course will bridge perspectives from media and com
munication theory and philosophy of science (incl. social science). Texts and discussion will be
in English and will be highly interdisciplinary, so a willingness to engage with students from
other backgrounds and openness towards empirical social science research is expected.
