This course will actively engage students in playful forms of translation that go beyond the idea of translation as an imitation of an original, and also beyond linguistic translation.
By using theories of Translation Studies, and in particular the paradigm of the Cultural and Postcolonial turn of translation, as well as emerging “undisciplined” and experiential approaches to the field, we will experiment with deconstructed forms of translation to produce (among others) literary translations, creative writings, collaborative translations, forms of mitigation of gender bias in translation, objects created starting from a text, arts based research and collective interventions on the spaces we inhabit, and in particular on the city of Berlin, and much more.
The course will take place in several locations in the city, in order to bring translation out of the classroom, both physically and metaphorically, to rediscover translation through a decolonized lens, and to make of translation an instrument of individual and collective intervention on the reality that we inhabit and that we can (re)shape together.
