Process mining is an emerging branch of data science applied to business processes. It supports discovering, checking, and improving processes by providing qualitative and quantitative insights into process execution, based on data from different information systems.
In this module, students learn the foundations, methods, and tools for all stages of the process mining workflow: data collection and preparation, data transformation, process discovery, conformance checking, process enhancement, process simulation, and performance prediction. Conceptual foundations are linked to typical application scenarios in real-world settings.
In the exercise, students work in teams with real or realistic event data in a process mining tool. They prepare event logs from raw data, run discovery and conformance analyses, and carry out a project in which they interpret their findings and present business-relevant insights.
