Art islands are spatially clearly defined places where architecture, landscape, and cultural infrastructure are deliberately conceived together in order to test new forms of coexistence and initiate processes of social transformation. By setting themselves apart from everyday urban or rural conditions, they create experimental spatial and cultural orders that simultaneously impact their surroundings and help to change them in the long term.

This seminar investigates how such “Other Spaces” are designed and sustained. How can architecture create autonomy without isolation? How can landscape integration, spatial sequencing, and modes of governance foster environments that are both distinct and connected?
