cue invites researchers and designers at every stage of their academic curriculum (BA, MA, PhD, Postdoc) to come share and discuss ideas about their potential or ongoing activities. Participants are welcome to present their research projects (in particular BA, MA or PhD thesis, as well as application proposals for fundings), but also any other design projects, or initiatives related to urban spaces, practices and ecologies.
Conducted by Prof Dr. Vialle and the cue research team, the colloquium is open to peer feedback from all participants. Aiming at fostering exchanges on the manyfold topics covered by cue’s research, teaching and design activities, the colloquium will support researchers by offering them state-of-the-art and methodological guidelines. This open format is ultimately meant to encourage the emergence of possible synergies or collaboration between the various researches, projects and initiatives presented.

COMMON GROUNDS – cue open (research) colloquium happens on Tuesday mornings, from 10 am to 1 pm, in room A710a. Participants are invited to select a 60 minutes slot of presentation and discussion in English (German and multilanguage friendly).

MA students are invited to respect to the following guidelines:

Preliminary discussion
Each student who wants to develop a MA thesis at cue, with Prof. Vialle as first or second supervisor, is invited to book a first slot to discuss the topic of research and potential supervision team (first or second supervisors).

Kickoff agreement discussion
After the agreement on developing the MA thesis with Prof Vialle as first supervisor, each student is invited to book a slot for a kickoff discussion, aiming at confirming the supervision team (second supervisor), the detailed topic, case stud(ies) and project site(s), main title, etc.
Each student is invited to prepare a 10 to 20 min MAX. presentation, including in particular some element of state-of-the-art (existing knowledge, previous research and project on the same topic), a problem statement highlighting need and opportunity for research and/or design, and some preliminary hypothesis.
Following the kickoff agreement discussion, the registration formular can be finalized and transmitted to the student service.

MA Thesis supervision:
After the kickoff agreement discussion, each student is invited to book a series of 4 supervision meetings in total throughout the approximately 20 weeks duration of the thesis elaboration.
To avoid problems and questions during the development of the thesis, it is the responsibility of each student to book the 4 appointments at once and ASAP. It will be appreciated that students cancel their appointment at least one week in advance to allow for rescheduling. Extra or replacement appointments will only be granted according to remaining availabilities in the Terminplaner. IMPORTANT: Appointments outside the slots offered in the Terminplaner on Tuesday mornings are not possible.
Students are encouraged to invite their second supervisors to attend the supervision meetings, depending on their availabilities.
To allow for significant progress in between meetings, and leave every student the possibilities to get regular appointments, a minimum interval of 4 to 6 weeks must be respected between two booked appointments.
For each appointment, students are invited to prepare a 30 min. MAX. presentation focusing on the new developments of the work (with a brief recap of previous work as introduction, then questions and following steps as conclusion).

IMPORTANT (PhD Thesis supervision):
On the second week of the month, the colloquium is dedicated to the supervision of the PhD thesis with occasional methodological and topical inputs by invited experts. This session is only accessible to PhD candidates or person actively welling to start a PhD in the near future.
