The seminar ’Houses and Trees’ explores the relationship between nature and architecture, focusing specifically on the role of trees. While the architectural discourse often emphasizes the environmental benefits of trees—such as climate improvement—this seminar highlights their potential to define space and aesthetics as well as their cultural significance.

Through case studies, you will critically assess the role of trees in architecture not only as environmental assets but also as spatial and cultural elements, culminating in a speculative artistic project that reimagines this relationship.
Beyond the critical reflection and presentation of a specific building you will be asked to come up with speculative interpretations in the form of photo essays, drawings and texts.

Please note: all assignments and materials for the course will be available here on ISIS.

The course is rewarded with 6 credit points - which adds up to a workload of 180 working hours.
