With all the power that technology yields, it comes with tremendous responsibility. Technologies often hold tremendous potential for addressing pressing social problems, but they may involve risks, uncertainties, unforeseen consequences, and can impact some social groups negatively. This course will examine ethical issues in the development, testing, and implementation of emerging technologies, and will focus on the intersection of technology development, design, and business. Using case studies and hands-on workshops, students will bring ethical and societal values into the design and development of new and emerging technologies from the very beginning of the process, reconciling the needs of research and innovation and the concerns of society.
