The Lecture "Models of biological neural networks" provides basic and advanced knowledge about the modeling, and analysis of biological neural networks. Specific topics addressed are: spiking neuron models, synaptic coupling of neurons, cooperative phenomena in neural networks such as global oscillations, mean-field limits (strong and weak coupling) and continuum limits of neural networks (neural field equations for perception and working memory), associative memory and attractor dynamics (Hopfield model), competition models of decision making.

The course is addressed at master students of mathematics, computational neurosciencs, physics and related disciplines.
