This seminar explores some key elements of thesis writing in the humanities.  How does a thesis differ from a shorter research paper?  What are its basic elements?  How does one identify a topic or decide on a methodology?  What kinds of tools and resources are available too guide your research?

These are all questions that address the formative and early phases of thesis writing.  The course will also include students who are in the process of working on their thesis, whether the research and/or writing phase.  These students will have an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge, but also to raise questions, get practical and conceptual advice, and - time permitting - to workshop parts of their document.

The course has no formal assignments but will include significant in-class time doing hands-on preparation, as well as some research into topical, conceptual, and research related topics.  The course will begin the week of October 30, 2024.

It is open only to CMS students, or with a direct agreement from the lecturer.
