We will be reading Michela Massimis recent book Perspectival Realism (Oxford University
Press 2022). Perspectival realism combines the thesis that there exist mind-independent things
and structures in the world with an acknowledgment of the historical situatedness of scientific
knowledge. Through close engagement with the book over the course of the semester, we will
critically engage with Massimi’s arguments in support of perspectival realism. Some background
knowledge in philosophy of science is required.
