Master seminar: Drivers and Effects of Segregation
The seminar will provide an international perspective on ethnic segregation, also in its close relationship with social segregation. We will critically discuss the impact of segregation on the participation of newcomers, as well as on issues of social cohesion and local forms of solidarity. In their presentations, students can choose an international case study to explore different facets of (spatial) inclusion and exclusion and planning approaches. Discussions will encourage critical thinking and analysis of the role of planning in addressing socio-spatial inequalities.

Seminarbeschreibung:
In der integrierten Veranstaltung beschäftigen wir uns mit der Rolle von Quartier und Nachbarschaft für gesellschaftliche Teilhabe und sozialen Zusammenhalt im Umfeld von großen Gemeinschaftsunterkünften. Wir reflektieren auf Grundlage von Referaten, externen Impulsen und einem Quartiersrundgang die Stärken und Herausforderungen des Programms BENN.
