Aims of the module
The students get an overview on the specific properties of urban soils, they know their specific parent materials, technogenic substrates, the soil forming processes as well as their resulting physical, chemical and biological properties. Students are able to identify soil properties in the soil profile and assess soil functions. Usual land use, soil functions, potentials and problems of urban soils were discussed.
The students are able to independently develop research questions on the subject of urban soils and can present and discuss them with the help of a scientific poster.
The course is mainly teaching: competence 45% methodical competence 20% system competency 30% Social competence 5%
Content
The integrated Course (IV) "Urban soils" gives an introduction to the subject in lectures and field exercises. After a general introduction, the topics soil sealing, contamination, parent materials and soil functions are discussed, e.g. urban agriculture. In addition, students get an insight into ongoing research in urban soil science. In the field exercises soil genesis on rubble deposits, on industrial waste deposits and in connection with the urban agriculture are presented and discussed.
In the Seminar "Urban soils" (Sem) students intensify their knowledge in literature studies and / or own practical research and learn how to present and defend scientific results with the help of a poster.
