Adaptation to Climate Change

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course students should: 
• have an understanding of climate justice relations 
• have an understanding of the interrelatedness of climate impacts, community-based adaptation to climate change, poverty and sustainable development 
• have knowledge on requirements in remote and displacement settings in countries of the Global South 
• have knowledge on sustainable climate change adaptation approaches and associated environmental, social and economic impacts in countries of the Global South 
• have insights into current developments in the field of humanitarian assistance and community-based adaptation to climate change 

 Students practically apply the gained knowledge through group exercises, presentations, analyses and case studies during the module as well as through a term paper at the end of the module. 

 The module conveys: 
20% Knowledge & Comprehension, 20% Analysis & Method, 20% Inventor & Design, 20 % Research & Evaluation, 20 % Application & Practice

Description of Teaching and Learning Methods

Lecture: Based on the theoretical foundations and approaches, up-to-date data and information is analysed and evaluated.
Group work: Case studies are prepared by groups of students, presented and discussed in seminar.
Individual presentations: Presentations by students contribute to seminar and are on chosen topics at the beginning of the module.


Requirements for participation and examination

Desirable prerequisites for participation in the courses:

Students should be interested in social, economic, environmental and technical aspects of community-based adaptation to climate change approaches in remote and displacement contexts and in the humanitarian field.
