Within this integrated course, students will delve into ongoing research and development within the realm of circular economy and recycling technologies. The curriculum encompasses scientific practices, including hypothesis formulation, experimental design, statistical analysis, and other assessment methodologies. Students will also acquire proficiency in experimental and analytical techniques tailored to characterize waste flows, waste-derived products, and recycling processes. Moreover, they will gain proficiency in tools for data management and presentation, along with competencies for delivering effective presentations and scientific writing.
Self-enrolment in the course is possible from 01.04.2025. The first live event will take place on 23.04.2026 at the campus of the TU Berlin in room M123. We would like to use this Kick-Off-Meeting to welcome you to the course, present the current topics for the semester, and discuss the first organizational aspects.

In this module, students will delve into the quantification and characterization of organic waste and the biological and geochemical conversion processes involved. They'll explore various process technologies used in composting, anaerobic digestion facilities, landfills, and mechanical-biological treatment plants. Additionally, students will learn the essentials of designing and dimensioning composting and biogas plants, as well as landfill facilities, focusing on emission prevention and treatment methods for leachate and exhaust air. The curriculum also covers final storage criteria for landfill management, prognosis and utilization of landfill and biogas, measurement of greenhouse gas emissions from biological treatment plants, and determination of depositing properties. Furthermore, students will study strategies for the remediation and decommissioning of landfills, equipping them with the skills needed for effective waste management practices.

Dear Students,
Welcome to the Product Circularity module! We're excited to have you join us as we explore the essential transition towards more sustainable and resource-efficient systems. This module will discuss strategies, technologies, and frameworks of circularity and circularity assessment.
Important Note: If you plan to participate in the module "Product Circularity," please write in addition an e-mail to "circulareconomy-tb-study@win.tu-berlin.de" with a short notification. This allows us to plan the content for the module.
Please note the details for our first session:
- Date: Tuesday, April 23nd, 2026
- Time: 16:00 (4:00 PM)
- Location: Room BH-N 333
During this module, we will cover a comprehensive range of topics crucial to understanding and implementing circularity:
- Fundamentals: Examining the complete product life cycle for selected products and innovative product-service systems.
- Core Strategies: Understanding various RE-Strategies (like Reuse, Repair, Remanufacture, Recycle) and how they are put into practice.
- Measurement & Evaluation: Exploring key metrics designed for the circular economy.
- Frameworks & Standards: Investigating the vital role of standardization in enabling product circularity.
- Digital Enablers: Diving into the concepts and technologies behind Digital Product Passports.
- Practical Insights: Analyzing real-world case studies across diverse sectors including like Batteries, Textiles, Packaging, Vehicles, Electronics, and Buildings.
This module aims to equip you with the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to navigate and contribute to the rapidly evolving field of the circular economy.
